This is a Ghanian xylophone, called a gyil. The spots are made from flattened out spider nests!
They cover holes drilled in the calabash gourds acting as resonators.

Students performing at the Orff Schulwerk National Conference in Denver, Colordo in 2013. The students still come back to Turtle Lake to visit and play the drums. They never forget the music . . . it is with them for life.
