Welcome to fourth grade music! This is a fun year in music with a lot of new opportunities. Most students are really excited about a new instrument that all fourth graders learn how to play . . . the recorder! Students will use the recorder as a hands on tool to achieve music literacy by learning the musical alphabet names of notes on the treble staff. If you would like to know more about recorders being used in fourth grade music class, please click here and read a recorder article from my blog page: Music Room Blog
Fourth grade is a wonderful age to start playing some more complicated literature composed for Orff instruments by Carl Orff and Gunild Keetman, from their series of books Music For Children. They will learn new rhythms and meters in fourth grade and master singing the full diatonic scale, as well as more harmonic singing. Fourth graders will also have the opportunity to join African Music Ensemble and Chorus, 4th Grade Choir, and Orchestra, as extra-curricular music activities.
Keep an eye on this page to see what fourth graders are doing throughout the school year in Ms. Crockett's music class. You can see what new concepts they are working on, month by month activities, and pictures and videos from different class performances.
