Hello 5th graders and parents! I'm so happy to meet all of our new 5th graders . . . and also excited to see those of you who have been at Turtle Lake, and welcome you back to a year of creative music making! This year is going to be full of performance worthy music that will utilize all of the concepts learned throughout elementary school, plus a lot of new concepts yet to come this year. We are going to learn chordal accompaniments, syncopation in rhythm, harmonic singing, writing our own music, challenging folk dances, and amazing world music!
In 5th grade, students have the opportunity to join many extra-curricular music activities---including orchestra, band, 5th Grade Choir, and African Music Ensemble. These are all great opportunities to explore options in the arts, before entering middle school and none of these activities conflict with each other--so students are able to join as many as they wish!
5th graders will once again be using their recorders throughout the school year. To brush up on recorder, check out my blog about recorders here: Music Room Blog
Keep checking this page if you're interested to see what's happening in 5th Grade music throughout the year. You will see monthly updates of what we are learning in music, as well as pictures and videos of classroom activities and performances.
Stay tuned!
