Yay for third grade! So much to learn this year in music! I'm excited to see all of you again and meet some new students attending Turtle Lake for the first time this year. This is the page that students and parents can look at to see all the "goings on" in Ms. Crockett's third grade music classes. You will be able to see what we are learning month by month throughout the school year, as well as pictures and videos of classroom activities.
Third grade music is so much fun because students are able to build on what has been learned in first and second grade and add even more pitch and rhythm concepts to help create, perform, understand and appreciate music. In third grade we will learn another meter, perform instrumental canons, play accompaniments and ensembles that have many different parts, and play instruments with more physical dexterity and improved technique. We will be learning more world folk dances that help our coordination, require good teamwork, keep us light on our toes . . . and just make us smile.
In September, third graders will spend the month reviewing rhythm and melodic concepts from second grade, through songs and games. They will also be learning some new classroom procedures, sing and move to some fun play-parties to get to know our new classmates, and start learning the basics of African hand drumming.
Stay tuned for more!
