I am beginning my seventeenth year teaching at Turtle Lake Elementary. Wow, does time fly! I can't believe it's been that long because I still love my job as much as I did back in the beginning of my career.
I have a B.S. degree in music education from the University of Minnesota and a Masters degree in music education from the University of St. Thomas. I am a certified Orff Schulwerk teacher and I've also had formal training in the Kodaly approach, the Dalcroze approach, Rhythm2Recovery, and I am a Remo Health Rhythms facilitator. My primary instrument is percussion . . . I love drumming! I also play the flute and piano and I am currently learning to play the guitar, which I consider the most challenging instrument yet.
I live in White Bear Lake with my fiancé. I have two grown daughters, Courtney(31) and Carly(30). They are both very successful and smart. My hobbies include: gardening, cooking, kayaking and paddle boarding, snow skiing, hiking, traveling and going for rides on my pontoon. I love the outdoors!
In addition to regular music classes at Turtle Lake, I also direct the 4th and 5th grade choirs and co-direct the African Music Ensemble and Chorus with Artist-in-Residence, Sowah Mensah. You can learn more about these extra musical activities by clicking on their pages at the top of the screen. Please note--these programs are on hold due to Covid.
